Jim Beam Prices on the Rise!

If you’re a fan of Jim Beam, you may want to consider stocking up on some of your favorites in the next couple of weeks.  Beginning February 1, 2015, Jim Beam products will cost an average of 4.5% extra in the great state of Michigan!

Most products are rising by $1.00 to $2.00 per 750 mL bottle, including brands such as Baker’s, Booker’s, Knob Creek, Old Crow, and Old Grand Dad.  One notable exception is Jim Beam Single Barrel which is set to rise by $5.00 (14.3%) to $39.99 for a 750 mL bottle.  The only good news in the price changes is for fans of Red Stag who will receive a $2.00 discount per bottle!  A full list of price changes follows.

The B3 – Bourbon Bacon Bloody Mary

The B3

Our morning is getting off to a slow start, so we figured what better time to share our take on a classic Bloody Mary?  We bet you’ll never guess what we’ve “enhanced” it with.  Yep, you got it – Bourbon!  And since we’re feeling a little crazy, we threw in a strip of bacon too!

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Elijah Craig 12 Year Straight Bourbon
  • 8 ounces Tomato Juice
  • 1-1/2 tsp Steak Sauce
  • 1-1/2 tsp Cream Style Horseradish
  • 5 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 strip Applewood-Smoked Bacon (cooked)
  • Todd’s Crabby Dirt Seasoning
  • Fresh Cracked Black Pepper
  • 3 Stuffed Manzanilla Olives
  • Ice

Directions

  1. Fill pint glass half full with ice.
  2. Pour in 2 ounces of Straight Bourbon.
  3. Add in Steak Sauce, Worcestershire Sauce, and Cream Style Horseradish.
  4. Top with approximately 8 ounces Tomato Juice.
  5. Stir thoroughly.
  6. Season top liberally with Todd’s Crabby Dirt.
  7. Sprinkle with fresh cracked Black Pepper to taste.
  8. Garnish with three olives and strip of bacon.

Note

We were running a little low on Tomato Juice this morning, so substituted some Mint and Lime V8 Juice that we had on hand.  Normally I wouldn’t think this would be a great mix with Bourbon, but it added a nice little zing!

Simple Old Fashioned

This is a simplified Old Fashioned recipe without the fruit.  It’s nothing fancy, but is quick to make if you want to switch it up from “only” Bourbon.

Simple Old FashionedIngredients

  • 2 ounces Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon
  • 1 tsp sugar (or 1 sugar cube)
  • 1 splash water
  • 2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
  • 1 dash Regan’s Orange Bitters No. 6
  • Ice

Directions

  1. Add sugar to empty Old Fashioned or Rocks glass.
  2. Pour splash of water on sugar.
  3. Add both bitters to the glass and mix or muddle until sugar is completely dissolved in solution.
  4. Pour in the Bourbon.
  5. Fill with ice and stir.

Savory Bourbon Balsamic Sauce

Bourbon Balsamic Sauce

For our first recipe, we thought we would introduce you all to our favorite Bourbon sauce.  It is a savory and slightly sweet sauce which is very versatile in adding some flavor to a number of dishes.  We have used it as a glaze, a sauce to spoon over a dish, and as a marinade.  In future entries, we will be featuring some of our favorite recipes that make use of this sauce. So far it has never disappointed!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup + 1 Tbsp Four Roses yellow label Bourbon
  • 3 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Beef Broth
  • 1 tsp Tamari Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Light Brown Sugar
Directions
  1. In small sauce pan, combine 1/3 cup Bourbon (set aside the added 1 Tsp for later) with the remainder of ingredients.
  2. Heat at medium-high heat, stirring constantly until light brown sugar is fully dissolved.
  3. Continue heating to boil, stirring regularly until sauce is reduced to 1/3 cup.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining 1 Tsp of Bourbon.

Alternate Preparation

Substitute 2 Tbsp of Teriyaki Sauce in place of Worcestershire Sauce and 2 Tbsp Chicken Broth in place of Beef Broth.
